Rural landscape and city meet in Park 21, the park of the 21st century. Like a green link, the park will connect the metropolitan region of Amsterdam to Schiphol Airport (one of the main gateways of Europe), the historic cities of Haarlem and Leiden and the coastal areas’ dunes and estates. With an area of no less than 1000 hectares, reachable in an hour or less for 9 million people, Park 21 will be the green, recreational centre of a dynamic international region.

Park 21: for anyone, any time

The town of Haarlemmermeer, once a large lake, was drained in 1852 with steam-driven pumps – a spectacular innovation, as until then this work had only been done by windmills. In the new polder, pioneers fought a difficult battle to make the ground suitable for farming.

Today, the straight lanes and ditches dividing up the polder landscape are characteristic for the Netherlands and for Haarlemmermeer. In Park 21 this unique cultural and historical structure will not only be accented, but two elements will be added to it: a park landscape with many different recreational opportunities and a range of leisure facilities.

Park 21 offers 9 million visitors from within the region and beyond whatever they might require, 24 hours a day, every day. Nature, recreation and relaxation, events, sights, attractions and entertainment. There’s always something for everyone in Park 21!
